7 Things You Could Be Doing This Weekend In St. Louis: Instead of House Cleaning (Volume 2)

One of the best parts of having Better Life Maids take over your house cleaning duties… Is never having to say no to weekend plans. The weekends were not made for cleaning. This is our second week of putting together this guide. Last week we saw a lot of great feedback and lots of visits to our Facebook page and blog. So we thought we would make this a regular thing around here. We want to try to highlight some of the great events that are going on this weekend in St. Louis. Consider this your starting point to great adventures all around St. Louis. We will try to post this guide weekly, and if it becomes popular will let you subscribe to it as a weekly newsletter. So here goes in no particular order, some of the great things going on this weekend in St. Louis. Get out their and enjoy some of them, and leave the house cleaning to us .

1. Indoor Rock Climbing Dates: Various Location: Upper Limits (Downtown or West County)

100 degree weather is the perfect time to get indoors… and climb some 50 ft walls. Upper Limits has 2 locations in St. Louis, with 10 of thousands of square feet of vertical climbing walls to explore. Rock climbing is a great sport that can be enjoyed by almost anyone, and is something the whole family can do. In fact my daughter is on a rock climbing team and started climbing competitively at age 7. But you don’t have to be in it to win it to enjoy the day on some indoor rocks. Upper limits has beginning instruction courses to teach you the ropes and knots. Whether you are just starting out, or a seasoned climbing adventurer, they will have something you will enjoy. 2. Disney’s Beauty and The Beast Dates: Until August 7th Location: The Muny at Forest Park

We told you about Into The Woods last week. And by all measures that was a fantastic show. But how can you go wrong with any show at one of St. Louis’ greatest performance art treasures. Watching a play is great, watching a play under the starts is magical. And this weeks show has lots of magic of its own. Most of us grew up with Disney movies, and the story of Beauty and the Beast was one of my favorites. Technically this year’s show for the kids Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, based on the 1991 animated film, is a classic that everyone in the family can enjoy. The music by Alan Menken and Tim Rice is beloved by children, so you already know your kids will find something they love in it, start their love of theater early. For more details click here.

3. Bobcat Goldthwaith Dates: 7/31 and 8/1 Location: The Funny Bone – Valley Park

Bobcat Goldthwaith has been making us laugh for decades now. I remember him best from his memorable roles in the Police Academy movies of the 1980’s, but Bobcat has been working steadily through the years doing standup, writing, acting, voice work and even directing. His current routine is sure to cover the ups and downs of his career, and probably take a few dark turns while he goes for some unconventional laughs. I would imagine if you are in the mood for a good laugh this weekend this is the show to check out. For more details click here.

4. Lantern Festival Dates: Evenings Until 7/31 Location: Missouri Botanical Garden

Last week was the 214th birthday celebration of Henry Shaw, the legendary St. Louis titan who sought to enrich the citizens of St. Louis with a wealth of botanical and horticultural knowledge, and so he left us his estate as a public garden. You got to see the gardens for free last week. Not so luck this week, but still worth the price of admission. This international exhibition of 22 lighted works of art from Zigong, China should be a pretty beautiful way to see the gardens. For more details click here.

5. Budweiser Burger Battle Dates: 8/2 Location: Soldiers Memorial Downtown

Don’t miss the Budweiser Burger Battle produced by ALIVE when it returns to Downtown St. Louis on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015! Descending on Kaufmann Park next to Soldiers Memorial Military Museum, this (free!) ultimate burger challenge pits 10 St. Louis chefs against each other in the ultimate burger cook-off. After savoring 10 sliders from local contenders, wash them down with cold drinks and look on as a panel of judges decides the fate of these chefs in the ultimate taste test. Budweiser Burger Battle attendees can also look forward to showing off their skills in the Game Zone and enjoying live music. Looks to be a good time. Fore more details click here.

6. Schnucks Cooks For Kids Dates: Various Location: Schnucks Des Peres

My oldest daughter loves to cook and create things in the kitchen. You might well see us at this one. Schnucks’ registered dietitians have developed hands-on cooking classes that encourage children to be creative and have fun in the kitchen as they explore new foods, tastes and flavors. It’s a fun and tasty way for kids to develop healthy habits. Kids will learn a pinch of math, a pound of health, a pint of culture, and a gallon of science. Classes begin Monday, June 8, and will take place each week through Aug. 7. For more information click here.

7. St. Louis’ Best Frozen Custard Dates: Whenever You Like Location: Chippewa or Grand Location

Truthfully every weekend is a great weekend for Ted Drewes frozen custard, but with epic heat this week, you deserve it. A St. Louis tradition on Old Route 66 since 1929. Known for specialty “concrete” shakes, so thick you can turn them upside down, at least for a second or two, but with this kind of heat, I wouldn’t count on it holding up (upside down) for too long. What’s your favorite? Matt always gets the Hawaiian. I am a purist and get a hot fudge sunday. Really their are so many choices, you will find something you love. Plus they even have no sugar added custard for those with diet restrictions, or just trying to stay svelte. For more information click here.
