7 Things You Could Be Doing This Weekend In St. Louis: Instead of House Cleaning (Volume 4)

One of the best parts of having Better Life Maids take over your house cleaning duties… Is never having to say no to weekend plans. The weekends were not made for cleaning. This is our fourth week of putting together this guide. We want to try to highlight some of the great events that are going on this weekend in St. Louis. Consider this your starting point to great adventures all around St. Louis. So here goes in no particular order, some of the great things going on this weekend in St. Louis. Get out their and enjoy some of them, and leave the house cleaning to us.

1. Movie Under the Stars Dates: Various Location: Skyview Drive-In Theater

So for many of us, a trip to Belleville might as well be to the moon. It seems like a distant and far away place. But just 15 minutes from St. Louis, is home to the last bastion of summer outdoor movie fun, the Skyview Drive-In Theater. When the sun sets, the twin screens display double features of recent Hollywood releases in clear digital format, while FM radio simulcasts the soundtracks. The viewing area—organized so taller cars never cut off smaller cars’ sightlines—borders a playground for youngsters and a concession stand with classic movie snacks. It is a real social experience, above and beyond the movie alone. Relive that joy this weekend and catch a movie under the stars. Do it soon, because summer is coming to a close. 2. Oklahoma! Dates: August 10th to the 16th Location: The Muny in Forest Park

So this is the 3rd time out of 4 of these posts that we have featured a show at the Muny, and you know what. Sorry not sorry. If I haven’t convinced you to make a trip to the Muny by now, I will try, try again. It really is one of St. Louis’ summer treasures, and you are running out of time on this season. This Rodgers and Hammerstein classic features an unforgettable story and lush score including such classic hits as “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “The Surrey With the Fringe on Top,” “People Will Say We’re in Love,” and of course, “Oklahoma!”. 3. Food Truck Friday Dates: August 14th Location: Tower Grove Park

More than 20 trucks park it every second Friday of the month through October for one of the best outdoor food events in St. Louis! At this point we have to believe that this food truck thing is here to stay, and I for one am so glad. I love following some of my favorite trucks on Twitter and trying something new and delicious. I also love that I can try out more than one of these trucks at once. Korean Taco with a side of Cupcake? Why not? Live music and great local craft beers round out the awesomeness that is Food Truck Friday. I will be at this one. For more information click here.

4. Jungle Boogie Dates: August 14th Location: St. Louis Zoo

Free and zoo only seems to happen in St. Louis, and maybe that makes us a little jaded to how incredible our zoo truly is: but a free concert at the zoo ups the ante. This Friday bring the whole family for a free concert by Mood Swings on the outdoor stage in the Schnuck Family Plaza in the center of the Zoo. There will also be animal-related kids activities focusing on conservation of endangered species through the Zoo’s WildCare Institute. For more information click here.

5. Foo Fighters Dates: August 19th Location: Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre

So I admit it. This one is not really this weekend, but I don’t think I would be doing this right if I did not include this event. The truth is most of the headliner bands that come to St. Louis do tend to sneak in during the weekdays. Whatever. I’m still in to see the Foo Fighters live in concert. This is the same band where singer David Grohl fell off stage, broke his leg, and still finished the concert. Amazing! Limited tickets are still available. For more information click here.

6. Dr Zhivegas Dates: August 14th Location: The Des Peres Lodge

This Friday Dr Zhivegas headlines the Des Peres summer concert series. Dr Zhivegas is one of the regions guilty pleasures. This band plays an extremely up tempo show with a mix of rock and dance music. It is really hard to describe what they are, but they are entertaining. In fact they have been a mainstay of the St. Louis music scene since the 90’s, and still play nearly 200 shows per year. This looks like a great event to check out. Free! For more information click here.

7. Pin Up Bowl Dates: Various Location: The Loop

If you haven’t been to Pin Up Bowl yet, I think it is about time to check it out. This is one of the many unique venues from the creative mind of Joe Edwards (you know who is, Blueberry Hill, The St. Louis Walk of Fame, Moonrise Hotel, The Pageant among many others to his credit). Pin Up is a part bowling alley, part concert venue, part martini lounge is a blast from the past. It mixes nostalgia with a modern night club in a unique way. You can usually find live music or DJ’s entertaining the crowd. If that’s not your thing, take a stroll down Delmar and check out the scenery. For more information click here.
